A look at a day in recruiting at Hueman.

Each day brings new challenges and triumphs as our recruiters work tirelessly to match exceptional talent with outstanding job opportunities. Organizing the day with time blocks helps our recruiters stay on-task and ensure all segments of the recruitment process are covered.

Between the job requisition load, candidate flow, normal daily interactions, and maintaining a number of hiring manager relationships, knowing how to stay organized is key for our recruiters to manage their day.

8 AM-9 AM

Check emails & voicemails

This is generally the shortest segment. The first thing our recruiters do when coming in for work is to go over any emails or phone messages that arrived overnight. The aim is to answer anything crucial first, and then deal with anything else during another suitable part of the day.

Paper screen new applicants

In the morning, much of the focus will be dedicated to the high volume job openings. These jobs have a large number of candidates that apply for the position directly. On the other hand, accounts with low-volume job openings are likely to spend less time on this phase as there won’t be too many applicants to vet. The purpose is to assess all candidates and either progress them or deny them in the hiring process.

Source & manage database

After recruiters evaluate their new applicants and determine which job positions they are qualified for, they should begin reviewing their other openings that don’t have any suitable candidates yet. This can be a challenging task, especially for recruiters handling lower job application volumes.

Communicate with leaders and hiring managers

This part of the job is critical since good communication and relationship-building are essential for recruiters and account managers. It is not necessary to talk to every hiring manager who has an opening. Instead, we let them know we understand their needs, communicate what our efforts have been, and collaborate on a plan.

Engage with candidates

In this segment, recruiters will phone screen the new applicants they pre-selected at the start of the day, and present them to employers, plus reach out to those who have already been presented or interviewed. It is recommended that recruiters focus on the list of jobs they need fulfilled, instead of a candidate list; in doing so, they maintain visibility on all their vacancies, and not just open positions that currently have someone in line for them.

Wrap up

We made it to the last hour! Now that most of the tasks have been taken care of it is time to begin planning for the next day. This includes reviewing any emails or phone messages that may have come in, creating additional recruitment plans, making sure reporting is up to date, and double-checking any work from earlier in the day. Finally, recruiters take this time to reflect on what went well during the day and plan how they can exceed expectations tomorrow.
